BASS MUSEUM OF ART
Established in 1963 and occupying what was once a Miami Public Library, the Bass Museum of Art has dedicated itself to providing world-class art for the Miami viewing public, the Bass Museum of Art is a must see for anyone visiting the city. In addition to having a wonderful collection the building itself is also the centrepiece of Miami's historic district is listed on the National Register of historic buildings. A renovation and a lot of added space has transformed The Bass Museum of Art, rendering it into Miami's most progressive art museum. Designed by world-renowned Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, the building has triple the former exhibition space, and a brand new outdoor sculpture garden, a museum cafe and courtyard, and a museum shop. In addition to providing space in which to show the permanent collection, exhibitions of a scale and quality not previously seen in Miami will now be featured at the Bass. The museum's permanent collection includes European paintings from the 15th through the early 20th centuries with special emphasis on Northern European art of the Renaissance and baroque periods, including Dutch and Flemish masters such as Bol, Flinck, Rubens, and Jordaens. In 2001 an art lab opened, making it possible for all aspiring artists to create their own masterpieces on computers for free or a nominal charge.
