After a long hot day on the beach there's nothing like some delicious fare to fill your stomach and Miami has a lot to offer in that department. From the ultra-genuine Latin and Caribbean fare of Little Havana to the ultra-hip style of South Beach there's something for everyone to enjoy. Must-try's include the incredibly delicious incredibly fresh ceviché (raw fish "cooked" in lime juice and spices) and the local favourite Café Cubano (a very strong black coffee). Want something a little more standard? Try any of the restaurants around Miami Beach, North Beach, Surfside, Bal Harbour & Sunny Isles. These places cater to the vacation crowd and have lots of delicious standard fare for moderate prices. Or if you just can't make up your mind what you want head on down to Coral Gables, a foodie's paradise. What Starbucks is to most major cities, excellent gourmet and ethnic restaurants are to Coral Gables, where there's a restaurant on every corner, and everywhere in between. * Anokha-Considered the best Indian food in Miami, Anokha's motto is "a guest is equal to God and should be treated as such" and they stick to it. The food is fantastic, especially the tandoories, curries and stews. * Baleen-The prices aren't what anyone would call lean but it's worth the cost. Gigantic crab cakes, oak-smoked scallops, and steak-house quality meats are among Baleen's excellent offerings. The lobster bisque is the best on Biscayne Bay. Everything is a la carte however so order wisely as it tends to add up quicker than you'd think. * Ortanique on the Mile-The hyper-chic design of this celebrated Miami establishment is just the beginning. For Caribbean food this is the place to go. Try the pumpkin bisque with a hint of sherry. Then move on to the mango salad with fresh pecans and a passion-fruit dressing. From there, order just about anything on the menu. You'll love it. * Baraboo--While the cuisine may be a bit funky for kids' palates, the wandering magicians and mimes are guaranteed to entertain the little ones, who will likely eat anything after the magician says "abracadabra." * Big Pink--One of South Beach's only family-friendly sit-down restaurants, Big Pink is a fun, noisy restaurant with a comprehensive menu consisting of macaroni and cheese, hamburgers, and other comfort foods guaranteed to satisfy the pickiest kids. |
